Osmo Action
Built to be knocked about. Waterproof without a case for swimming, rugged enough for bikes and boards, and mountable on anything with the magnetic quick-release.
What it gives up is finesse. There is no mechanical gimbal — stabilisation is electronic, which is excellent but crops slightly and works less well in very low light. For diving, riding, driving and anything involving impact, this is the right camera.
Osmo Pocket
The Pocket carries a real three-axis mechanical gimbal, and that is the whole point. Where the Action compensates in software, the Pocket physically counters your movement — which is why handheld walking footage stays level rather than drifting.
It also has a larger sensor than an action camera, so it holds up better indoors and at dusk. The rotating screen makes switching between landscape and vertical a single flick.
What it gives up is toughness. It is not built to be thrown at rocks, and the exposed gimbal needs protecting in a bag.
Osmo 360
Records everything around it, then lets you choose the framing afterwards in editing. One mounted run gives several usable angles, and the mount itself can be erased from the footage.
That reframing workflow is the reason to choose it: you stop aiming the camera and start deciding the shot later. The cost is resolution — spreading capture across a full sphere means any single flat crop has less detail than a dedicated camera pointed at the same subject.

For most buyers the camera is not the constraint. Three other things are, in order: audio, light, and stability. A Pocket with a wireless microphone produces far better results than a higher-specification camera with onboard audio in wind.
Budget accordingly — the accessory that fixes audio often improves the finished video more than the difference between two camera bodies.
